Several members of Alba Berlin have returned positive results in the latest COVID-19 tests performed since the beginning of the week, the team announced Wednesday.
Additional tests will determine the coronavirus spread, as noted in the official update presented by the team based in the German capital. More information on the team status will be shared after the next COVID-19 tests.
The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 19 home fixture opposite Panathinaikos OPAP is already suspended upon request of the Greens. The game was initially scheduled to be held tomorrow, Thursday, and will be rescheduled to a later date.
In addition, the Round 18 visit at AX Armani Exchange Milan was suspended last week. It has been rescheduled for January 18.
The team guided by Israel Gonzalez last played a EuroLeague game on December 22. Defeating AS Monaco in Mercedes-Benz Arena improved its W-L tally to 6-11, good enough for 16th place among the 18 teams participating in Europe’s premier club continental competition and two and a half wins outside the top eight seeds leading to the 2022 Playoffs. From there to the last stage with Berlin planned to host the Final Four set to crown the champion and complete the 2021-22 season.
After the win against La Roca Team, Alba Berlin notched three wins in a row in Germany’s easyCredit BBL. The current 10-4 record ranks third in the standings behind leader Telekom Baskets Bonn and fellow EuroLeague side FC Bayern Munich sitting at 12-3 and 11-3, respectively.
