Guerschon Yabusele has signed a contract extension with Real Madrid until the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, the team announced Sunday.

Yabusele, 26, joined the Whites during the previous offseason. Midway through his one-year contract, he re-signed for three more years.

The former player of the Boston Celtics, 16th overall pick of the 2016 NBA draft, quickly evolved into an important weapon for head coach Pablo Laso. Packing 12.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest, he has started in 14 out of his 15 appearances in the 2021-22 edition of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

Domestically, he generated 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per ACB game over his first 14 appearances in Spain’s top-flight division, which is widely considered the strongest domestic league in Europe.

Prior to moving to the team based in the capital of Spain, Yabusele notched 90 appearances in the NBA as a member of the Celtics through the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. After returning to Europe, he logged 32 games played in the EuroLeague with LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, while capturing France’s league championship and cup.

Similar to multiple teammates, he was recently cleared from the COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Due to the spike of positive cases, Laso’s side remained idle from December 23 to last Tuesday’s win against Baxi Manresa on the road.

Up next, his team is set to visit Joventut Badalona later today (19:15 CET). The approaching two-game week in EuroLeague has been limited to Bitci Baskonia at home Friday since the game versus Crvena Zvezda mts in Belgrade initially scheduled to be held Tuesday was suspended.

Carrying a 14-3 record, Madrid ranks second in EuroLeague, half a game behind archrival FC Barcelona. The 14-1 record ACB leads the standings, a couple of games ahead of Barca.
