Mike James finished the game scoring 13 points in a row, as Monaco prevailed in Athens, James’ old home, against Panathinaikos. In total the fan-favorite in Athens scored 29 points on 12/17 FG and the guests got the 91-83 win.
“I am made some shots early and that gives you confidence”, said James admitting that he wanted to respond after his bad game (11 p. 3/19 FG) against Real Madrid. “My last round game was awful so I didn’t want to play bad twice in a row”.
Dwayne Bacon with 14 points and Paris Lee with 12 also contributed as Monaco played with fire but ultimately wasn’t burned and got its 10th win of the season.
Panathinaikos led by 27-19 after the first quarter, however, by halftime, Monaco was up by seven (49-42) and had a 13-point advantage at the start of the third (59-46).
The hosts reacted with an 11-0 run to cut the lead to two (59-57) and even managed to get a 68-67 lead in the fourth. Monaco’s answer was a 16-2 run with James scoring 13 of those points.
The guests got a solid 83-70 lead and despite the effort of Panathinaikos for an 11th-hour comeback, got things under control until the end.
Jeremy Evans and Nemanja Nedovic with 16 points each were the top scorers of the home side, which was missing captain Ioannis Papapetrou who had a minor surgery due to sinusitis. The Greeks dropped to a 5-15 record.
