AS Monaco extended its winning streak to two games after outlasting Crvena Zvezda with a 91-80 comeback victory on the road for Round 25 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
Donatas Motiejunas was the man of the hour for the Monaco side, leading the comeback effort with a team-high performance of 20 points and 6 rebounds.
After being down 52-42 at halftime, Monaco stormed into the third quarter to tie the score at 64 points and got ahead with the lead for the first time to escape with the win and sweep the regular-season series against the Serbian side.
Dwayne Bacon added to the efforts of Sasa Obradovic‘s squad with 17 points, while Mike James followed with 10 points. Monaco ends the double-game week with two victories, to improve to a 12-12 record in the standings.
“First, it is a big win”, said coach Obradovic after the win. “We still think about and dream about being in the top eight. For someone that is starting in the EuroLeague, that would be a great success in the end. […] We played much better defense and in the end, we found good mismatches and some things that we were talking about which could be open for us, offensively. Like I said, I am extremely happy going out of this hot court with the win.”
Austin Hollins scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half for Zvezda, while Nikola Ivanovic tapped 15 points and 4 rebounds and Ogjnen Dobric posted 13 points for the hosts. Zvezda suffered its second defeat in a row and now slips to an 8-14 record.
