Carlos Alocen tore his left ACL, Real Madrid announced Monday. He is expected to remain sidelined for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

Per the press release: “Following tests carried out on our player Carlos Alocén by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a full tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.”

He had five points and one assist in five minutes before exiting the ACB Regular Season Round 22 visit to Unicaja due to a knee injury. His side ended up securing the win in Malaga to improve its league-leading record to 17-4. In the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, the team coached by Pablo Laso carrying a 20-5 W-L tally is currently tied with rival FC Barcelona on top of the standings.

Alocen, 21, put up 2.7 points, 1.6 assists, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.3 steals per contest over nine appearances this season in the EuroLeague. At the domestic level, he produced 3.3 points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 0.5 steals per ACB game over 11 games played. A foot injury had already limited his participation in the 2021-22 campaign.

The young point guard is going through his second season with the Whites after launching his pro career as a member of Casademont Zaragoza. He joined the Spanish giant located in the country’s capital in 2019 but spent the 2019-20 season on loan to his previous club before completing the jump. Accolades include being named Best Young Player of the 2019-20 Basketball Champions League season.
