Anadolu Efes set a new all-time record for the most 3-pointers in a EuroLeague game with 22 in a 109 – 77 blowout win over Maccabi Tel Aviv at home.
This win improved Efes to 13 – 12 and brought them at the eighth spot in the standings. Maccabi dropped 12th at 11-13.
Efes dominated the game from start to finish thanks to its strong offense and Maccabi was not able to match this firepower. Vasilije Micic led all scorers with 20 points (4-5 3-pointers) while dishing out 10 assists.
Adrien Moerman dropped 17 points (5-7 triples) and Shane Larkin added 16 points (4-6 threes) plus six dimes for an Efes squad that overall shot 22 out of 34 from beyond the arc.
Scottie Wilbekin had 16 points plus seven assists and Ante Zizic posted 17 points and eight rebounds for Maccabi. The Yellows were overwhelmed in their first EuroLeague game after the departure of coach Giannis Sfairopoulos and fell another step behind in the race for the playoffs.
In a peculiar day for European sports, Efes coach Ergin Ataman used the time to send out his own anti-war message after the game:
“I start with my words that I said in the beginning of the game. Stop the war. This is an unacceptable war. People are dying, innocent people, children. So, stop the war, please”.
