Daniel Hackett is close to joining Virtus Bologna as the sides have a deal in place, according to Eurohoops sources. Emiliano Carchia first reported the agreement.
Hackett is still under contract with CSKA Moscow until the summer of 2022 but the Russian club is expected to accommodate him. After the release, he’ll sign a multi-year deal with Virtus Bologna.
The Italian guard was the sixth player to leave Russia and CSKA after the start of the war in Ukraine. He won the 2019 Euroleague with the team.
Hackett didn’t play for an Italian club since 2015 and his two-year stint with Olimpia Milano. The 34-year-old averaged 8.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 22 EuroLeague games this season.
UPDATE: Virtus Bologna announced later on Thursday they have signed Hackett to a deal through the 2023-24 campaign.
