EuroLeague will not count the results of the Russian teams if they are left out of the season

With the Russian clubs’ games being suspended for the moment from the EuroLeague and the EuroCup and the more than real possibility of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague regular season-ending up having 15 clubs with CSKA Moscow, UNICS Kazan, and Zenit St. Petersburg being expelled from the 2021-22 season, a debate about the standings has opened.

While initially, the 15 clubs decided that the results of all Russian teams will be annulled, a number of clubs with favorable results so far in the season against Russian opponents have argued that the final standings should be based on winning percentages with all games already played included.

The end result was for the 13 A-licensed clubs to vote on the subject with Monday, 7th of March, being the last day for submitting their votes, and ultimately what was initially proposed was also voted by the majority.

If EuroLeague decides to expel Russian clubs, the final standings will include 28 games for each team and the results of the Russian clubs will be removed. In that case, the current EuroLeague standings are the following.

  1. Barcelona 18-4
  2. Real Madrid 16-5
  3. AX Armani Milan 16-6
  4. Olympiacos 15-7
  5. Bayern Munich 12-10
  6. Anadolu Efes 12-8
  7. Maccabi T.A. 11-10
  8. Monaco 10-13
  9. Fenerbahce 9-13
  10. Crvena Zvezda 9-12
  11. ALBA Berlin 8-12
  12. Baskonia 7-15
  13. ASVEL 7-15
  14. Panathinaikos 6-16
  15. Zalgiris Kaunas 6-16

With the current standings, Bayern Munich is 11th with a 12-13 record, while Maccabi is 12th also with the same record (12-13). They will jump to the 5th and 7th place respectively.
