Fenerbahce Beko was among the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague teams voting against potentially canceling games played against Russian sides during the 2021-22 Regular Season, the team announced Tuesday.
If CSKA Moscow, UNICS Kazan, and Zenit Saint Petersburg end up being expelled, the final standings of the 15 remaining teams will be calculated without taking into account the games played against the three Russian sides earlier in the season, according to the decision made on Monday. The votes were split seven to six, as confirmed by Fener.
“Some of the seven EuroLeague A License teams voted with their own interest in mind, while some others of these seven teams voted in a manner that we have not been capable of comprehending the reasoning behind,” noted the Turkish outfit in the press release.
Fellow Turkish club, Anadolu Efes was among the teams voting in favor of disregarding all games versus the Russian sides, added Fenerbahce in the official announcement.
“We would like to underline our disappointment in having different sides with the other representative of our country, Anadolu Efes, on such a sensitive opinion, which we strongly believe in its truthfulness; and we would like to leave the evaluation of it to public’s and fans’ discretion,” reacted Fener.
The projected standings are the following:
1. FC Barcelona 18-4
2. Real Madrid 16-5
3. AX Armani Exchange Milan 16-6
4. Olympiacos 15-7
5. FC Bayern Munich 12-10
6. Anadolu Efes 12-8
7. Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv 11-10
8. AS Monaco 10-13
