Baskonia held on to beat ALBA Berlin 85-68 in Round 30 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague at home to extend its winning streak to three games and improve to a 10-15 record.
Rokas Giedraitis registered a new season-high with 22 points, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds to lead the way for Baskonia, while Wade Baldwin had 16 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds and Simone Fontecchio added 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
ALBA chipped away the deficit late in the third quarter after being down by 15 points, though Baskonia’s reaction was quick in the final period and Giedratis kept his team on board down the stretch. Tadas Sedekerskis (7 points) and Vanja Marinkovic (10 points) buried back-to-back three-pointers to restore a double-digit lead for the hosts en route to securing the victory.
“After suffering so much, we found another way to win another EuroLeague game. That is the way to play basketball; to share the ball among the guys and make everybody happy”, commented Baskonia head coach Neven Spahija.
Jaleen Smith had 16 points for ALBA, which held on to a three-game winning streak prior to their Vitoria-Gasteiz visit and now they dropped to an 11-17 record.
Oscar Da Silva followed with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and Tamir Blatt was added to the list of top scorers with 10 points, 6 assists.
