Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Real Madrid to solidify in the sixth position of the EuroLeague standings Thursday and the Israeli club is looking for reinforcement, both on the court and on the bench.
Maccabi parted ways with head coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos back in February and since then Avi Even has taken the reigns of the team, though with the EuroLeague playoffs approaching, the addition of Xavi Pascual is the main target.
As reported by ‘One’, Maccabi is accelerating contact with the Spanish coach, while Fenerbahce is also in the mix of suitors. Pascual still has a contract with Zenit St Petersburg with an option to renew for next season which will have to be resolved before he accepts a new deal.
With the negotiations underway, Maccabi is also targeting Zenit forwards Mateusz Ponitka and Alex Poythress that could follow Pascual to Tel Aviv.
Besides the negotiations with Pascual, One further reports that Maccabi is also planning on signing big man Ante Zizic to a contract extension. The talks have already been initiated and are expected to gain momentum soon.
Maccabi has won three of their last four EuroLeague games to improve to a 13-11 record and are expected to make their playoffs return after six seasons (they were playoffs bound in 2019-20 when the season was canceled).
