AX Armani Exchange Milan has released Italian swingman Riccardo Moraschini, the team announced Monday.
Per the press release: “Olimpia Milano and Riccardo Moraschini decided to rescind the contract that in any case was going to expire on June 30.”
Moraschini, 31, last appeared for Olimpia Milano early in the 2021-22 season. He averaged 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest in Italy’s LBA Serie A and logged a brief outing in one contest of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season.
Already suspended after testing positive for clostel metabolite in October, he was handed a year-long suspension by the Italian National Anti-Doping Tribunal in January. Apparently, he took the substance unintentionally. Ruling out the attempt to overturn the decision in court, his appeal was deemed inadmissible. He will not return to action this season.
The Italian player, who can play in both guard positions and as a small forward, joined the Milan outlet in 2019 inking a three-year contract. He was coming off a brilliant 2018-19 campaign with Happy Casa Brindisi. During the last three seasons, he made his way to 40 EuroLeague games upping his total to 42, including a couple of appearances with Virtus VidiVici Bologna in 2007-08.
Moving forward, Ettore Messina’s side is set to host FC Bayern Munich and AS Monaco Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Currently ranked fourth in the EuroLeague table but can potentially jump all the way up to the second seed in the bottom end of the 2021-22 Regular Season. At 19-3 domestically, it shares the lead with Virtus Segafredo Bologna.
