AS Monaco will keep former EuroCup Coach of the Year Sasha Obradovic at the position of the head coach for the 2022-23 season, his agent announced Wednesday.
Obradovic, 53, took over his current role in December replacing Montenegrin play-caller Zvezdan Mitrovic. Under the guidance of the Serbian head coach, La Roca Team has qualified for the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs, thus securing a spot in the 2022-23 playing field of Europe’s premier club continental competition. At the domestic level, the 19-7 record is joint-high with Boulogne Metropolitans 92 on top of the Betclic Elite LNB Pro A standings.
With the new boss in charge, Monaco has prevailed in 26 out of 36 games across all competitions. Ranked seventh overall after improving to 14-13 in EuroLeague, the team based in the Principality of Monaco and competing in French domestic competitions managed to combine the debut campaign with a Playoff berth. However, it will be dealing with a top-four seeded side packing the home-court advantage in a best-of-five series for a spot in the season-ending Final Four, scheduled to be held in Belgrade’s Stark Arena between 19 and 21 May.
His side will welcome ALBA Berlin at Salle Gaston Medecin on Friday (21:00 CET) to complete the Regular Season schedule. The Playoffs are scheduled to start on April 19 with the last possible date to wrap up the best-of-five series set on May 4.
His first stint as the head coach of the La Roca Team was placed at the bottom end of the 2019-20 season. He then led his side to the 7DAYS EuroCup Quarterfinals before the coronavirus pandemic forced a premature ending to the campaign. The retired player and Crvena Zvezda mts legend returned to the Serbian giant to start the 2020-21 season but his head coaching run ended in December. One year later, he made his way back to Monaco.
