Hours after the report that Thomas Heurtel and Trey Thompkins are free to leave Real Madrid, coach Pablo Laso explained the situation and took responsibility for the decision.
“Heurtel and Thompkins aren’t training with the team. It is a technical decision, I have full confidence in the rest of the team,” Laso said and added. “It is my decision, considering that the remaining 13 players can get the best out of them between now and the end of the season and we are going to be the team we want to be.”
He also made it clear that the decision will not change. “The decision that Thompkins and Heurtel won’t return to the team is definitive.”
The coach explained that the roster of the remaining roster is suitable to finish the season and he noted that the club will not sign a point guard.
Heurtel has signed a 1+1 contract last summer with the Whites.
Madrid had a lot of ups and downs in the recent few months despite starting the season strongly and Laso decided to change things going into the playoffs. The team finished as the fourth seed with an 18-10r record.
