After eight years in Moscow, Dimitris Itoudis is leaving CSKA for Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, as reported first by Greek outlet Sport24.gr and confirmed by Eurohoops sources in Greece.
The two sides are in advanced talks towards reaching a deal and Itoudis is set to move for the upcoming season to Turkey for the second time in his career, following a one-year stint in Banvit (2013-14).
Current Fenerbahce head coach Aleksandar Djordjevic remains under contract with the club for the next two seasons and Fenerbahce must first terminate his contract to complete the move of Itoudis.
Similarly, Itoudis still has a contract in place with CSKA, and its termination will have to be negotiated and completed before he makes the jump to Fenerbahce. So nothing is set in stone yet, however it seems that both Itoudis and Fenerbahce have made their decisions about their joint future.
Itoudis recently took over the Greek national team head coach position and will begin his duties in the upcoming 2022 EuroBasket tournament in September. He has won twice the EuroLeague with CSKA Moscow, establishing himself as one of the top coaches in Europe.
It’s a well-documented fact that Itoudis’ mentor is Zeljko Obradovic, who won his last EuroLeague trophy on the bench of Fenerbahce. The two of them spent more than a decade on the bench of Panathinaikos with Itoudis being the head assistant of Obradovic.
