Crvena Zvezda mts will wrap up the 2021-22 season competing for the title in the Serbian league without Nate Wolters, the team announced Thursday.
Wolters, 31, joined the Belgrade giant for a second stint last August. He was excused from the end of the season due to urgent family obligations, as noted in the press release. Making the trip back to the USA upon approval of the club means he will not be available for the Serbian league Playoffs, effectively ending his second run with the team. He is set to become a free agent.
The South Dakota State product put up 10.9 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game over 31 appearances in his fourth Turkish Airlines EuroLeague campaign. The team record of 12-16 fell narrowly short of a berth in the Playoffs.
Averaging 8.4 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per ABA League contest provided a huge boost to Crvena Zvezda being crowned champion for the sixth time in the regional league. In addition, his side lifted the Radivoj Korac Cup for the eighth time last February.
Seeking the third title of the season, the team coached by Dejan Radonjic will collide with Mega Mozzart in Serbia’s Semifinals With Wolters out of the picture, Stefan Markovic and Nikola Ivanovic are slated to cover playmaking responsibilities. Game 1 of the best-of-three series will be held Friday.
Partizan NIS taking on FMP Meridian completes the Semifinals bracket. The teams earning two wins will move on to the Finals.
