Nick Calathes gave his own answer through Eurohoops about a Mundo Deportivo report which surfaced Monday on his “pending” Barcelona exit. Calathes denied the report through a comment on Eurohoops’ Instagram, stating that it’s “fake news”.
Calathes, 33, still has one year on his contract and according to the report, he is “exploring his options to leave Barcelona and his relationship with coach Sarunas Jasikevicius has deteriorated a lot in recent weeks”.
Fenerbahçe and Maccabi Tel Aviv are reportedly among the teams who have shown interest in Calathes, although there are also options for him to return to Greece. In order to do so, Calathes must first reach a buy-out agreement with Barcelona for the remaining year of his contract.
Calathes, who recently became the All-Time EuroLeague assists leader, averaged 7.3 points, 6.4 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 24:30 minutes on the court across 29 EuroLeague games this past season, his second with Barcelona.
