While there are mixed-up reports about coach Dejan Radonjic’s future, two things are certain. He’s got an offer by Crvena Zvezda on the table while Panathinaikos is also trying to bring him over.
According to Montenegrin outlet RTCG, Radonjic has already decided to move to Panathinaikos but information from Serbia’s Mozzart Sport states that the coach is yet to make the final decision and has traveled to Athens on June 29th to talk with the Greek club. His answer should be expected the day after (June 30th).
Radonjic had been given an ultimatum until June 30 to accept Zvezda’s offer to continue for another two years. What was important for the Montenegrin coach was to have guarantees that Red Star will be competitive in the next season and the matter of his salary didn’t have much to do with his decision, as RTCG reports.
So far in the current offseason, Austin Hollins and Dejan Davidovac left Zvezda while leading performer Nikola Kalinic is at the exit door (and rumored to approach Barcelona).
Radonjic led Zvezda to the 2022 ABA League and Serbian League championship titles. Overall during his two separate stints with the Serbian powerhouse, he won five ABA League titles (2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022), five Serbian League titles (2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022) and five Serbian Cup titles (2014, 2015, 2017, 2021, 2022).
