ASVEL Villeurbanne announced that EuroLeague superstar, former MVP and champion Nando De Colo signed a contract with the team for the next two seasons. The veteran French guard is back playing in his home country for the first time after he began his career with Cholet in 2006-2009.
“Thank you Nando De Colo for believing in our project,” ASVEL president Tony Parker tweeted. He was a teammate of De Colo on the San Antonio Spurs and the French national team. “We are entering a new era. In 2013, we won the 1st EuroBasket title in the history of the French team together. In 2023, I hope we can win the first EuroLeague title in history with ASVEL.”
ASVEL began its moves for the next season in a highly impressive fashion, especially after losing leading scorers Elie Okobo (to Monaco) and Chris Jones (to Valencia) while seeing projected No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama parting ways with the club. De Colo joins the team after spending the last three years with Fenerbahce Beko in Turkey.
Last season De Colo, 35, averaged 11.9 points, 3.8 assists and 2.2 rebounds in EuroLeague, plus 15.05 points, 4.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds in Turkey to help Fener win the BSL. He previously played for CSKA Moscow from 2014 to 2019, emerging as one of the elite players in the competition.
In 2016, De Colo won EuroLeague season MVP and Final Four MVP as CSKA won the championship. He became EuroLeague champion once more in 2019, before moving to Fener.
