Rolands Smits was in talks with Baskonia, however, the Latvian power forward has reached an agreement to sign for Zalgiris Kaunas, per Eurohoops sources.
It was known already that Smits would not continue next season at FC Barcelona after four seasons with the team. However, as an established EuroLeague player, he had already received the interest of Valencia Basket and Baskonia with the Vitorians being considered the favorites to land a deal with him.
However, Smits will play in Kaunas, where he’s expected to have a much bigger role.
Last season he averafed 4.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.6 assists in just under 15 minutes per contest in the 36 games he has played.
