Real Madrid won the EuroLeague title back in 2015 with the trio of Rudy Fernandez, Sergio Llull, and Sergio Rodriguez creating havoc in the backcourt.
One year later, in the summer of 2016, “Chacho” left for the NBA and then returned to Europe in 2017 playing for CSKA Moscow and Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan. He won one more EuroLeague title with CSKA in 2019 and now at his 36-years of age, he returns to Real Madrid with a one-year deal to re-unite with fellow veteran leaders Sergio Llull (34) and Rudy Fernandez (37).
It’s still unclear if this is the last season on the courts of all three of them, but their quality remains irreplaceable and, especially in the case of Rodriguez, top-quality point guards are a rare commodity. He proved it after all by leading Olimpia to the Italian league title.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid is also expected to inject new blood with the duo of Dzanan Musa and Mario Hezonja, while keeping one more veteran guard in Fabien Causeur.
