Real Madrid announced Thursday they have penned Frenchman Fabien Causeur to a contract extension valid through the 2023-24 season. Causeur’s previous contract with the Spanish club expired in late June, though his step up in the second half of the season earned him a new deal.
Causeur, 35, averaged 7.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists across 36 Spanish Liga Endesa games in 2021-22 and his numbers went up to 8.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 28 EuroLeague games.
Causeur is an 11-year EuroLeague veteran with 274 appearances. more than half of those (152) have come in Los Blancos’ uniform. He first made his EuroLeague debut with French side Cholet Basket in the 2010-11 season, and he has been a consistent presence in Europe’s premier basketball competition ever since, going on to play for Baskonia, where he stayed for four years, and Brose Bamberg prior to his arrival at Real Madrid in 2017.
Causeur won the EuroLeague with Real during the 2017-18 season and has helped the team reach three Final Fours. He has also won the Spanish league three times and the Copa del Rey once with Real.
