Olympiacos Piraeus star forward Sasha Vezenkov hinted that he’ll be spending the 2022-23 season with the Greek powerhouse and won’t be making a move to the NBA for the Sacramento Kings this summer.

“For sure, the way we finished the season was very beautiful. But we’ve left that behind and we are preparing for the next season,” Vezenkov said to Cosmote TV.

He also added while speaking to Eurohoops: “I am flattered by the love of Olympiacos fans. I don’t have to say anything else on the matter. We have to be patient for 10 more days”.

His NBA opt-out with his contract with Olympiacos expires on the 20th of July,

After acquiring his rights via a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Kings showed a concrete interest in signing Vezenkov and invited him to the Las Vegas Summer League for an interview and talks with the management. He called off the meeting but the possibility of an offer remains.

The Kings are attracted to the offensive package that Vezenkov carries and his combinations of size and shooting strength, in particular. Sacramento general manager Monte McNair has spoken highly of the the Bulgarian player’s talents, capabilities and potential to translate his skills to the NBA.

Vezenkov’s NBA opt-out clause on his contract with Olympiacos expires on July 20. If he remains with the Reds, it’s very likely that he’ll be signed to a new deal that will also include a salary increase.

In 2021-22, Vezenkov averaged 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists and emerged as one of the top players in the EuroLeague. He was named to the All-First Team of the competition while pushing Olympiacos to the Final Four.
