The excitement never waned during the last EuroLeague season, right up until the moment in which Anadolu Efes Istanbul made history by clutching the trophy for the second year in a row. The new season promises just as many thrills, with 18 teams all vying for a chance to get their hands on the EuroLeague crown.
In less than three months, the EuroLeague will be back in full swing, with opening games starting on Thursday, October 6, 2022. There will be 34 rounds of action, followed by best-of-five playoff series among the top eight teams and then the world-renowned Final Four, from which the 2022-23 EuroLeague champion will be determined.
As early as Round 2, EuroLeague fans can enjoy the first clásico of the season, with FC Barcelona hosting Real Madrid at Palau Blaugrana. There are two mouth-watering matchups in Round 7, a repeat of last year’s championship game between Real Madrid and Anadolu Efes Istanbul as well as the first Italian derby between EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and Virtus Segafredo Bologna in the EuroLeague this century! You can expect passion aplenty when Partizan NIS Belgrade takes on arch-rivals Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade in Round 12 and when Panathinaikos OPAP Athens hosts Olympiacos Piraeus in Round 16, the last one in 2021.
Each month from October through February features a double-round week, and then March offers a basketball buffet with two such four-night feasts – Rounds 27 and 28 and Rounds 31 and 32. As a result, March is also the month with the highest amount of games, seven fixtures per team. The next highest is December, with six.
Aside from December and March, the fixtures are spread out evenly during the other months of the season, including February, which has a traditional week off due to domestic cup competitions but still has four scheduled rounds.
The regular season is set to draw to a close on Friday, April 14, 2023, after which the top eight teams will advance to the playoffs. First of all, though, the 18 teams must compete in 34 games in the 2022-23 EuroLeague Regular Season, where every basket in every game matters.”
