Linked to an NBA comeback, Tyler Dorsey officially becomes a free agent. Olympiacos confirmed his departure Tuesday.
Dorsey, 26, rejected offers from both Olympiacos and fellow Turkish Airlines EuroLeague side Fenerbahce Beko. He had a private workout with the Dallas Mavericks and is likely to receive an offer from the Mavs but it remains unclear whether he will end up in Dallas. Understandably, his goal is an NBA return.
The California-born Greek-American has recorded 104 appearances in the NBA. Playing for the Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies was the main highlight of the rookie and sophomore professional campaigns after coming out of Oregon in 2017. Selected with the 41st overall pick of the 2017 NBA draft by the Hawks, he went on to tally 6.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game in the NBA, prior to using overseas options for the next chapter.
Israel powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv was home for two seasons, 2019-20 and 2020-21. Being crowned champion in Israel’s Winner League wrapped up both seasons. Moving on to the Reds, his efforts resulted in winning the titles in both Greece’s Stoiximan Basket League and the domestic cup.
Generating 11.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game illustrated the statistical picture of his three EuroLeague seasons. Dorsey’s 12.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game and shooting 44.2% from the field helped Olympiacos clinch a berth in the Final Four of the 2021-22 season held in Belgrade.
