AS Monaco has penned Alpha Diallo to a three-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.
“My decision to continue my career in Monaco is based on the desire to be competitive, and to win championships in the French league and in the EuroLeague as well,” he commented on extending his contract, per the press release, roughly translated with help from Google, “I believe Monaco has a big chance to fight for these titles and that is why I signed a new contract. Also, the goal will be to improve the team, be together with each other, and keep battling for the titles.”
Monaco already re-signed head coach Sasha Obradovic, explosive guard Mike James, and big man Donta Hall from the 2021-22 squad. Reinforcements coming in are Elie Okobo, Jordan Loyd, John Brown III, and Jaron Blossomgame, as announced earlier in the offseason.
Diallo, 25, was initially slated to start 2021-22 at Greek club Panathinaikos OPAP. He left the Greens and joined the fellow Turkish Airlines EuroLeague participant before the start of the season. Averaging 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks per contest painted the picture of his statistical contribution debuting in Europe’s premier club continental competition.
At the domestic level, producing 11.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game helped in making the First Team of France’s Betclic Elite LNB Pro A.
Coming out of Providence in 2020, Diallo turned pro in Greece packing yet another solid campaign in 2020-21 for Lavrio Megabolt.
