Barcelona star forward and reigning EuroLeague MVP Nikola Mirotic is battling pain in his Achilles tendon as Barcelona confirmed.
Per the press release: “We inform you that the athlete Nikola Mirotic has discomfort in the Achilles tendon of his left foot. The Blaugrana player, who already played the final leg of the Liga Endesa with discomfort, is undergoing recovery treatment that will last for the next few weeks. Since the end of the 2021/22 season, the player has been under the control of the Club’s medical services. His evolution will mark his return to the courts”.
However, initially, it was reported that Mirotic will be out six months due to an Achilles tendon injury by Telesport and Eurohoops sources confirmed the info.
With no timetable about Mirotic’s recovery provided yet, if that info proves right it would be quite the blow for both the club and the player after perhaps the top season of his career so far.
The 31-year-old player may end up being sidelined at least for the first half (the first 17 games) of the EuroLeague regular season and he will be absent from the Spanish ACB Supercup. Plus per the same Eurohoops sources, Barcelona is in the market for a power forward.
In 2021-22, Mirotic didn’t miss any game in EuroLeague en route to winning MVP for the first time in his career. He averaged 16.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 24:59 minutes as Barcelona made the Final Four for the second straight season.
