Former Texas Tech standout and oldest son of famous retired Italian player Paolo Moretti, Davide Moretti has been released from his contract with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan.
The Italian powerhouse announced his exit on Wednesday. After foregoing his senior season at Texas Tech, he signed a multi-year contract in 2020. But reaching an agreement to detach himself, he became a free agent two years after penning the deal.
Moretti, 24, was loaned to VL for the 2021-22 season and is expected to return to the team based in Pesaro on a new contract. The loan stint produced 9.2 points, 2.5 assists, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per contest over 34 appearances in Italy’s domestic competitions.
In his rookie professional season based in Milan, he was limited to a minor role but logged his first three appearances in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. In addition, he earned his first cap at the senior level following a lengthy and successful run with the junior national teams of Italy.
The Bologna-born point guard spent three years in the NCAA evolving into a key player for the Red Raiders. Playing in the 2019 Final Four championship game was the main highlight of his college career, despite Texas Tech falling to Virginia. At 16, he debuted in Italy’s LBA Serie A as a member of Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia and went on to De’ Longhi Treviso playing in his country’s second-tier division for two years, before opting to nurture his talents in the NCAA.
