Using overseas options and advice from Greg Monroe, former Michigan State standout Cassius Winston joined FC Bayern Munich.
Winston, 24, signed a one-year contract, his new team announced Thursday.
“Greg spoke highly of the Bayern organization, the people there, the program, and the constant support to help you become a better player,” he said commenting on talking with former Bayern player Greg Monroe, per the press release, roughly translated with the help of Google.
Coming out of Michigan State in 2020, the Oklahoma City Thunder selected him with the 53rd overall pick of the NBA draft. From there, he logged 30 games played in the NBA as a member of the Washington Wizards. The G League shapes up his remaining professional experience over the last couple of years.
“I am a real playmaker who knows how to win games and will give my all every night,” he described his abilities, “As a playmaker, I always want to play the pass, but I also want to score, just do the right thing at every moment to win.”
Following Danko Brankovic, Freddie Gillespie, Elias Harris, and Jan Niklas Wimberg in the list of summer additions for the team coached by Andrea Trinchieri, the Detroit-born floor general moves on to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
“I am very excited that I will start soon,” he mentioned regarding the next season, “Because the best European basketball is played in the EuroLeague and I know there are great teams, venues, and a large fan base there.”
