Senegalese center Gora Camara shifting to Virtus Segafredo Bologna for the next season

The path back to Virtus Segafredo Bologna leads center Gora Camara to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

Camara, 21, will be part of the squad for the 2022-23 season, the team announced Wednesday. After debuting at the senior level by playing for the Bologna outfit in the 2018-19 season of the Basketball Champions League, he spent the next three seasons on loan and most recently logged 20 games played in Italy’s LBA Serie A as a member of VL Pesaro. Novipiu Casale Monferrato was his home for the remaining part sending him to action in lower divisions of Italy.

Surfacing in the top-tier division of Italy, he averaged 2.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per contest over 27 appearances for VL. Playing in three BCL games was part of the championship-winning season, In 2019, Virtus Bologna took down Iberostar Tenerife to capture the Champions League title in Antwerp, Belgium.

Additional experience for the Senegalese center includes a couple of seasons in the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament for the youth team of Virtus Bologna. He was named MVP of the 2018 ANGT Qualifier Valencia.

Ismael Bako, Gabriel Iffe Lundberg, Leo Menalo, Jordan Mickey, and Semi Ojeleye were the previously confirmed summer reinforcements for the team coached by Sergio Scariolo. Players coming back include experienced stars Daniel Hackett, Marco Belinelli, and Milos Teodosic.

Winning the 7DAYS EuroCup last season clinched a berth in the 2022-23 edition of EuroLeague. The team located in Bologna will be back in the premier club continental competition of Europe after 14 years.
