Toko Shengelia (30, 2,06 m.) returns to Virtus Bologna having signed a new 2+1 contract with the Italian club and putting his NBA ambitions away. This ended up being a natural turn of events for one of the top players in Europe, after the shoulder injury that kept him out of the Eurobasket, which Georgia was co-hosting.
That would have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the player, who is also the captain of the Georgian national team, and maybe his last chance to convince an NBA team to take a chance on him.
Per the press release: “Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna announces that it has reached a new agreement with Toko Shengelia until 30 June 2024, with the option of renewal for the 2024-2025 season.
Toko, who joined Virtus Segafredo during last season, immediately became a staple of the virtussian team, playing a leading role in the ride that allowed Segafredo to win the EuroCup 21-22 and return to the Euroleague after 14 years”.
