Nicolas Laprovittola set the pace early with 14 points and 4/8 threes, Alex Abrines also provided a huge spark with 14 points on 4/6 threes and Jan Vesely did his thing also with 14 points as Barcelona got the 84-73 road win over Bayern Munich.
The guests ended the night with 13/26 threes plus dominated the boards with 34 rebounds against 24, making things simple.
Despite still missing key members, Bayern was competitive in the first half, trailing by three at halftime (37-34).
The scenery changed drastically in the third period with Barcelona shooting 12/22 threes up to this point of the game and Mike Tobey making the score 61-45.
This scoring crescendo was enough, as the guests entered the last period leading by 12 (65-53). Bayern didn’t back down but couldn’t get any closer than nine points (67-58) until the end.
As Barcelona’s coach Sarunas Jasikevicius said: “I thought we were very good today. We set out to do a lot of things, and we did many of them against an opponent which is always solid. We started the game 2 of 10 for three-pointers, and some of them were extremely wide open. But in the third, we hit the shots.”
Coach Andrea Trinchieri agreed: “Everything happened in the third quarter. We started it very badly, they hit 3 threes in a row and this cost us the game. In the first half, we matched their intensity and physicality, but we had problems guarding Abrines and Laprovittola, who combined for 8 threes. We just have to build an opportunity to win one game and then everything will look different.”
Augustin Rubit had a hell of a game with 19 points, however without affecting the outcome. Barcelona jumped to a 2-1 record, while the Germans dropped to 0-3.
