Fearing for the worst, Cazoo Baskonia and explosive guard Markus Howard seem to salvage some luck on the heels of an unfortunate setback.
Howard, 23, suffered an injury on his left knee against Olympiacos yesterday, Friday. In the initial medical tests following the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 5 game, it looks like a serious injury has been avoided, the team announced Saturday. Further evaluation in the next few days will determine the course of action and potentially produce a timetable as the former Marquette standout begins the road to recovering from the injury.
Lasting 18:42 with 11 points to his name, Howard was hurt in a collision with the towering center of the Reds Moustapha Fall. On the losing end of the contest, his side was forced down to 3-1 in Europe’s premier club continental competition.
Howard averaged 21.5 points per game connecting 48% of his shots over his first four appearances in the EuroLeague. Appearing in four games of Spain’s Liga Endesa, he put up 9.3 points, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 rebounds per contest. He used his overseas options and joined Baskonia in July after logging 77 NBA games played with the Denver Nuggets spilling from 2020-21 to 2021-22.
Sidelined with an injury on his left ankle, the team based in Vitoria-Gasteiz set Steven Enoch to miss several games last week.
In Round 5 of Spain’s Liga Endesa Regular Season, Baskonia will clash with Real Madrid at home tomorrow, Sunday. Back to EuroLeague and a visit to LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne Friday.
