Incredible first half enough for ASVEL to defeat Baskonia

After two tough losses against Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and Fenerbahce Beko on the road, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne played a great game, the best in this Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season, and got its second win. The French side demolished Cazoo Baskonia, 87-61, Friday. On the other side, the Spanish team was held to its worst game of the still young season (3-2).

The first quarter told the story of this game with the home side excelling and jumping to a solid lead. Fast breaks and good defense was the main reason that the home side had a big advantage after just a few minutes. Baskonia scored only 10 points and was already down by 14 points at the end of the first quarter.

The rest of the way, it was smooth sailing for T.J. Parker’s side. They maintained the lead on the back of Nando De Colo. The experienced guard drew up seven points, five rebounds, and four assists.

“What I really like was the difference. I like the effort we made in defense. The team spirit was great”, said coach T.J Parker.

Baskonia responded with improved offense in the second quarter but then dealing with a deficit of 18 points, the game was sealed before the second half even started.

In a great team effort, Retin Obasohan and Jonah Mathews scored 13 points each. Youssoupha Fall and David Lighty added 11 apiece.

On the other side, Rokas Geidraitis scored 14 points.

“Congratulations to Asvel, they played a good game, and we played a bad game. This is not a way to play a EuroLeague game”, said Joan Penarroya.
