Thanks to a 48-29 run in the second half, ASVEL managed to come back from a 14 points halftime deficit and get the 84-79 win over Virtus Bologna on the road in Round 6 of the 2022-23 EuroLeague.

David Lighty gave Virtus a lot of problems on the defensive end, scoring 16 points and shooting 6/7 from the field.

Jonah Mathews added the same amount of points, while Amine Noua followed with 14.

Nando De Colo (10 p., 5 a.) and Youssoupha Fall (10 p., 7 r.) found each other pretty well in the pick and roll.

“This was a tough first half, but the team had a great reaction in the second half producing some easy baskets. We made some tough shots, that’s basketball”, TJ Parker said in the post-game press conference.

In his first game of the season with the black-and-white team after the shoulder injury he suffered before EuroBasket 2022, Toko Shengelia had 7 points. Iffe Lundberg added 13.

Semi Ojeleye and Milos Teodosic added respectively 11 and 14 points, while Ismael Bako registered 12 points and 6 rebounds against his former team.

“Completely different games. We played a great first half, we came back from the locker rooms really soft and I can’t really tell why after the defense we produced. We didn’t even make fouls, and some of their experienced players like Lighty and De Colo didn’t let the game go anymore”, Sergio Scariolo said in the post-game press conference.

ASVEL ended the game without mistakes from the free-throw line (12/12), while Virtus was perfect until Lundberg’s 0/2 with 2:40 left.

This is ASVEL’s second win in five EuroLeague games against Virtus Bologna. With this win, the French team is currently 3-3 in the standings, while the Italians are 2-4 in the EuroLeague.

The home side will travel to Milan on Wednesday for the Italian derby against EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, which lost against Real Madrid at home. ASVEL will host Zalgiris Kaunas on November 10.
