Facundo Campazzo started his third season in the NBA, this time with the Dallas Mavericks, but he’s still a big fan of Real Madrid and tries to watch every game of the Spanish powerhouse.
He believes that Jesus Chus Mateo is following in the footsteps of his predecessor Pablo Laso, with whom he worked as an assistant at Madrid from 2014.
“I try to watch all their games, both from the ACB and the EuroLeague. During the season, there are always ups and downs, but Real Madrid is a very talented team that commands a lot of respect in all positions. The base is almost the same. The coach has changed, but I think that Chus Mateo is following the same path as Pablo Laso. From here, I always wish them the best”, Campazzo said to Marca.
His former Real Madrid teammate Luka Doncic welcomed him into the new club this season.
“Luka is still the same person: a worker. He always played like an adult, as if he had already had a lot of experience. At Real Madrid, he did it that way, and now he does it in the NBA. Doncic has always been very generous with me. He helped me a lot with adapting,” Campazzo added.
During the summer he worked with the Argentine national team, played in FIBA windows for the 2023 World Cup, and won the AmeriCup in Brazil.
“The National Team has a new coach, Pablo Prigioni. I’m looking forward to absorbing his experience and his leadership. I think he’s going to fit all the pieces together perfectly. The Argentine national team is in the process of reconstruction, creating an identity and a way of playing,” the 31-year-old point guard stated.
Campazzo is looking forward to the football World Cup in Qatar, which is a few days away.
“Now it’s time to breathe the World Cup daily. Let’s see if I can get them to show the Albiceleste football games in the locker room instead of the analysis videos of the rivals in the NBA,” Facundo Campazzo said with a big smile.
