Rallying from a 16-point deficit, Virtus Segafredo Bologna battled through the last 4:25 of the nail-biter without Milos Teodosic.
Teodosic, 35, initially picked up his fourth foul of the night. Extremely passionate in protesting the call, he was issued a technical foul and was tossed from the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 10 contest against Anadolu Efes.
“Of course, Milos isn’t an inexperienced player. I don’t know what they said to each other, to be honest,” stressed Virtus Bologna head coach Sergio Scariolo sharing his view on the incident during the postgame press conference.
Despite missing the experience Serbian guard, the Bologna outfit kept fighting but fell narrowly short of digging its way out of the 16-point hole.
“We forced Efes to keep their best players on the court,” underlined Scariolo, “We need to grow and get more experience, study, and learn to reduce those situations in which we still make some mistakes. Our last shots shouldn’t have been three pull-ups. There’s always a margin to improve”.
Since sitting out the opening round of the 2022-23 season, Teodosic settled in a reserve role came off the bench in the next nine games up to the clash with the reigning back-to-back EuroLeague champions. He averaged 8.6 points, 4.3 assists, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.6 steals per contest.
Carrying the experience of ten EuroLeague campaigns between CSKA and Olympiacos, including the 2016 championship with the Moscow outfit, he resurfaced five years after his last appearance on the heels of helping Virtus Bologna top the 2021-22 edition of 7DAYS EuroCup and punch in the ticket to the top-tier competition of Euroleague Basketball. Following his NBA experience with the Los Angeles Clippers from 2017 to 2019, he opted to join Vu Nere stretching his spell into the current fourth season.
Back in Europe’s premier club continental competition after 14 years, the storied Italian club currently sits at 4-6, one win outside the Playoffs zone.
