Kostas Antetokounmpo has agreed in principle with Fenerbahce Beko and will be signing with the Turkish powerhouse to return to EuroLeague.
Eurohoops can confirm that there’s a deal in place between Antetokounmpo and Fener that will bring the Greek forward/center back to Europe after his short stint with the Chicago Bulls. SDNA first reported about the signing.
Antetokounmpo, 25, was targeted by Panathinaikos Athens, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Fenerbahce, with the latter ultimately getting the player. All three teams were looking for a big man and it’s the Istanbul side that managed to convince the younger brother of NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to join them. The presence of Greek national team head coach Dimitris Itoudis at the helm of Fener played a significant role in Antetokounmpo agreeing to join the club.
Fenerbahce is without center and leading scorer Johnathan Motley and is still waiting for star forward Nemanja Bjelica to return after an injury. The team, that is coming from its first back-to-back losses this season, didn’t want to deal with such gaps on its roster any longer and moved quickly to acquire Antetokounmpo and add an extra body to its frontline.
Antetokounmpo played in EuroLeague last season with ASVEL Villeurbanne. He had 5.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13:08 minutes.
