Achille Polonara was on the verge of leaving Anadolu Efes, but now the possibility of him finishing the season in Istanbul is more than strong.
The soap opera of him moving out of his team is already long with Virtus Bologna first entering the picture, then coach Ergin Ataman admitting that the player is unhappy with his role, and then Crvena Zvezda emerging as a favorite to sign him.
However, with Zvezda getting a new ban on registering players it seems that only Virtus was in the picture for him. Even earlier today, when the return of Chris Singleton to Efes was announced, it was widely speculated that Polonara will end up in Italy.
Per Eurohoops sources, the interest of Virtus is real, however, the team has not presented any offer to the side of the player and Polonara is prepared to stay with Efes and help the team in any way he can to achieve a historic EuroLeague three-peat.
Virtus or any other EuroLeague suitor can sign him before the start of the 18th round of the competition. Simply put, if he is not moved until the start of next week, he will not be able to play for any other EuroLeague team until the end of the season.
Polonara has been averaging 2.9 points and 2.2 rebounds in 11.4 minutes over 14 games in EuroLeague.
