The saga of Facundo Campazzo and the ban on Crvena Zvezda preventing the player from registering in Europe’s top league continues. Now the president of the competition, Dejan Bodiroga has made a statement for a Serbian news outlet Sportal where he said that it should be allowed for Campazzo to compete.
“On December 30, 2022, the management of the Euroleague sent a recommendation to the competent, independent commissions – the Management Control Commission and the Finance Panel, to allow the registration of Facundo Campazzo in Crvena Zvezda and to enable him to play, because it is in the interest of the competition. At the same time, we supported all decisions that go in the direction of maximum compliance with all regulations related to financial stability and fair play, which also means strengthening supervision“, says Bodiroga.
The management of the Euroleague agrees with the fact that the financial penalty (25,000 euros) should be imposed on Crvena Zvezda and that financial supervision is strengthened, but it is against Facundo Campazzo being banned from playing.
Dejan Bodiroga, as the president of the Euroleague, has no right to amnesty, and such a decision can only be made by the Euroleague CEO Marshall Glickman, and it ultimately may benefit the league.
