ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne (7-13) snaps a big losing streak in Turkish Airlines Euroleague. In round 20, the French side managed to get a win in Italy where they topped EA7 Armani Milano (6-14) in a back-and-forth battle 79-73.
Jonah Mathews was the hero with 17 points, followed by Nando De Colo who scored 13.
“We been losing in the last couple of games and Milan is a great team. It was a game of runs, and I stayed confident in my ability“, Jonah Mathews said who hit two big three-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Brandon Davies dominated on the other side with 26 points. Timothe Luwawu-Caborat added 16 points.
“Turnovers decided the game and two crucial three-pointers“, Ettore Messina added.
Following a slow and low-scoring start, both teams found their rhythm and range on offense, hitting some eye-catching long-range shots to inject some life into this contest. Timote Luwawu was on fire, and so was Brandon Davies. The dynamic duo had 25 of the team’s 37 points in the first half but Asvel was ahead, mainly because the French side had more offensive weapons and was playing better defense 42-37.
But the tables slightly turned in the third quarter as Olimpia Milano went on a run that tied up the score in the fourth quarter (57-57). The Italian started the finale 10 minutes with a 5-0 run that was immediately answered by ASVEL who once again highlighted that it was a back-and-forth game. In the end, it was Jonah Mathews with the two crucial three-pointers that sealed the deal.
“Our defense got us the win. We have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks” said T.J. Parker
