Zalgiris Kaunas’ forward Tyler Cavanaugh had to undergo back surgery after the problems with pain in his back occurred mid-December, and he’ll be out for at least three months, the club officially reports.
The American player is expected on the court at the earliest in late April, after a surgery performed by neurosurgeon Bronius Spakauskas.
“We would like to thank Dr. Spakauskas for the successful surgery. Although we tried conservative methods of treatment with Tyler, in the end, it turned out that the surgery could not be avoided. The player will start his rehabilitation in 8 days. If it goes according to plan, we could expect Tyler’s return to the court at the end of April,” said Zalgiris Kaunas doctor Vytautas Kailius.
In the meantime, Zalgiris signed another forward Achile Polonara, who already debuted for the club and will take Cavanaugh’s place in the Kazys Maksvytis team.
Cavanaugh has played 14 games this EuroLeague season, scoring 5.9 points and grabbing 4.3 rebounds. On the national stage in the Betsafe-LKL, the American put up 7.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
