Partizan Belgrade Sports Director Zoran Savic commented on the signing of Facu Campazzo by Crvena Zvezda (Partizan’s archrival) and the salary that the Argentinian star allegedly receives.
“The fact that they [Zvezda] found the resources to sign their new players was a surprise for all of Europe,” Savic said when asked about Crvena Zvezda while being interviewed on the Italian TV Show Sport Klub. “Paying 100,000 euros a month to someone like Campazzo seems to be unbelievable nowadays, especially regarding a team from the Balkans”
Campazzo signed with Zvezda in December but has yet to make his EuroLeague return due to the extension of a player-registration ban that the organization imposed on the Serbian club. As long as the ban remains, he’s eligible to play in March.
Red Star president Nebojsa Covic has openly accused Savic of interfering with the situation in an effort to boycott Campazzo’s registration.
“They [Zvezda] are playing really well,” Savic admitted.
Savic, a former three-time EuroLeague champion as a player, also talked about Virtus Bologna. He won the EuroLeague in 1998 with the Italian team. “They are doing what is expected, they are now paying the price of inexperience but they are playing well,” he said.
Regarding Virtus coach Sergio Scariolo, Savic mentioned: “He knows how to adapt to the team he coaches. He’s improved a lot over the last few years. We saw with the Spanish national team, he won everything and won the most important games. Technically, I really like him. he was in the NBA to see basketball from a different angle.”
