Virtus Segafredo Bologna head coach Sergio Scariolo updated the status of Semi Ojeleye and more of his players.
Ojeleye, 28, will miss four more weeks, per the Spanish tactician. He picked up a thigh injury in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 21 affair at FC Bayern Munich last Friday.
“His injury is a very unfortunate coincidence for the type of player he is, considering that he is one of the pillars on which the team is built,” noted Scariolo following the win against Tezenis Verona in Italy’s LBA Serie A Regular Season Round 17 Sunday.
Gabriel Iffe Lundberg already missed Round 21 of the EuroLeague Regular Season with a right finger injury. He has been ruled out of the double-game week featuring Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet at home Tuesday and LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne on the road Friday.
“We hope the others can make strides not only in point production but in general, we have a special need for everyone,” mentioned Scariolo highlighting the necessity of other players picking up for injured teammates once more in the 2022-23 season.
On a positive note, Awudu Abass finally returned to action logging six minutes against Verona after multiple injury setbacks forced him to the sidelines for the better part of the last two seasons.
“He is a guy who has a great heart and has been very serious about the recovery work, exemplary,” commented Scariolo, “It will take a while to get him back into a game rhythm and to get him back into the game system.”
The Bologna outfit carries a 9-12 W-L tally, two games shy of the EuroLeague’s Playoffs zone. The 13-4 domestic record is tied with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan on top of the LBA Serie A standings.
