As the club announced, Christos Serelis returns to Panathinaikos, this time to take over as head coach until the end of the 2022-23 season.
As per the official report, Vassilis Simczak has also returned to Panathinaikos‘ coaching staff.
At the same time, the Greens have started a cycle of contacts with Pablo Lasso in order to convince him to take over Panathinaikos from the summer of 2023 onwards, with Christos Serelis staying to help, as “Gazzetta. gr” writes, if the Spanish coach accepts.
Serelis once again leaves Lavrio for Panathinaikos, something that also happened last year in April, to stand by the side of coach Giorgos Vovoras so that they close the season together.
The 49-year-old coach returned to Lavrio again in the summer of 2022, the only team he has coached so far in his career since 2005 as a head coach.
His agreement with Panathinaikos is set to run strictly until the end of the current season, taking over from Dejan Radonic who agreed to end his contract on Monday (20/2), and officially parted ways with the club.
As previously reported, Radonjic, who had a contract until the end of the 2023-24 season, agreed to receive his full payment for this season and half his salary for next year.
With Panathinaikos already out of the EuroLeague playoffs race and amid 11 straight defeats to Olympiacos, the decision to part ways with the Montenegrin coach and start over was not unexpected.
Once the year is over, Panathinaikos will discuss with Christos Serelis about renewing their partnership as an assistant to whoever ends up being the head coach, but everything will depend on his successor.
Panathinaikos was looking for a coach until the end of the current season, and Aris Lykogiannis was also on the list, after his partnership with PAOK.
According to the Eurohoops information, the same was proposed to Gianmarco Pozzecco.
