Barcelona (17-8) got a much-needed win after a turbulent period. Coach Sarunas Jasikevicius’s squad got the job done against Monaco (15-10) in round 25 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by prevailed 80-70.
“Big games are all about small details. It’s a very important win. Everything happens so fast in Euroleague“, said Jasikevicius.
Tomas Satoransky led the way with 15 points. Jan Vesely and Cory Higgins added 12.
“In the second half we did not have solutions on offense, but we did not give up, and we got a win“, said Vesely who completed his 300th game in EuroLeague.
Mike James scored 14 points for Monaco, Jordan Loyd and Alpha Diallo added 13.
The defense was the name of the game. Barcelona got off to a quick start scoring 24 points in the opening quarter which was enough for a comfortable lead that grew to an 11-point difference at half-time (50-39).
Monaco could not find any kind of offensive flow and Barcelona used to its advantage to get a much-needed win to keep pace with Olympiacos and Real Madrid who remain on top of the standings.
The best the guests could do was trim Barcelona’s lead to three (65-62) with six minutes left, but Barcelona answered back with a 6-0 run and Monaco couldn’t get again into striking distance.
“We did not execute in the fourth quarter when it was important“, said Sasa Obradovic.
