In the hunt for the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague championship, the first in ten years, Olympiacos has piled up a league-high 19-8 record with seven games left in the Regular Season.
Following the latest win with FC Barcelona falling at the Peace and Friendship Stadium Tuesday, Thomas Walkup talked to Eurohoops about the squad and pressure for a long and successful run in the 2022-23 edition of the EuroLeague.
“One through twelve, we are very balanced. I don’t think it’s the first group of second group type of thing,” he commented on the win in Round 27 with scoring spreading across nine of the ten players checking in for the team guided by Giorgos Bartzokas, “It was really really good basketball by the full twelve.”
Walkup, 30, has contributed 7.7 points, 5.4 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per contest over 27 appearances, all starts, in his fifth EuroLeague campaign, second as a member of Olympiacos coming off the run to the 2022 Final Four.
“No, that is what we want,” the Stephen F. Austin product replied to a question about extra pressure on the team, “As professional basketball players, you want that pressure, you want to have it. We are fortunate to have it. We love that.”
