With Ergin Ataman reacting after the insulting chants against him by Crvena Zvezda club and calling the situation “embarrassing for the EuroLeague”, the club itself reacted with an official press release.
According to the text: “KK Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet is forced to react after the inappropriate statements of the coach of Anadolu Efes at the end of the match in Belgrade in which our team deservedly won.
The club has never, nor will it support insults and verbal attacks on anyone at matches in the KK Crvena Zvezda organization.
However, the coach of Anadolu Efes provoked a reaction from the audience and fans with his behavior. Whether that behavior was appropriate was shown by the ejection of the coach of the visiting team, as it happened in some games in other countries within the same competition with the same epilogue.
Finally, the former coach of Galatasaray “forgot” what happened in 2014, he forgot about Marko Ivkovic, and what he called the fans and supporters of our club. If he forgot, we can’t. Everything else goes to his credit”.
Marko Ivkovic was murdered in 2014 in Istanbul before the game of Zvezda against Galatasaray. Ataman was the coach of Galatasaray at the time, called the Serb fans terrorists, and later retracted his original statement, explaining that he was not fully aware of the tragic incident, adding that each game should be “a token of friendship”.
