ELPA, the Euroleague Players’ Association revealed its view on Andrew Andrews and Panathinaikos finding an amicable solution to terminate their contract.
The Greens recently parted ways with Andrews following several months of shortcomings in negotiations between the 29-year-old guard and the team based in Athens. Falling out of favor and out of the active squad, the player was sidelined since late October.
ELPA’s reaction to the conclusion centers on the assistance provided by EuroLeague and an appointed mediator.
Per the press release: “After Andrew Andrews and Panathinaikos Athens hit a wall in their contractual relationship, the ELPA, which at all times tried to bring both parties to an amicable solution, suggested that instead of unilateral actions, parties try to settle their dispute and terminate their agreement on mutual terms with the help of mediation.
ELPA suggested to Mr. Andrews and his representatives to use EuroLeague as the role of a mediator, which is in accordance with EuroLeague Bylaws. Therefore, on 2 March 2023, the player has officially requested the initiation of mediation between him and the club. With the help of the appointed mediator, both parties agreed to terminate their contract on mutually acceptable terms on 10 March 2023.
The ELPA is pleased that through the process of mediation Mr. Andrews, his agency’s lawyer and Panathinaikos Athens cooperated in good faith and thus found a solution acceptable for both sides. ELPA would like to thank EuroLeague and its appointed mediator for their assistance in this matter.”
