Crvena Zvezda president Nebojsa Covic talked about the season so far and the ambitions for the upcoming summer.
“I have nothing to justify to anyone, nor do I think that anything was wasted. Does the question immediately go to whether the players will stay for next season? We need to talk about keeping the team together and creating continuity. We will do everything to keep Campazzo and some other players, as well as the local basketball players. Someone should understand the Serbian language,” said Covic in a guest appearance on the Morning program on Prva television.
He congratulated his eternal rival for qualifying in the quarter-finals of the Euroleague.
“I really and sincerely congratulate Partizan, I believe they can take a step further. Zvezda will play to the maximum against Fenerbahce, we invite the fans to be with us“.
He also analyzed the season so far…
“We said that we will try to enter the Top 8, we behave realistically, we don’t live in a virtual world. We behave according to our capabilities. We won the triple crown last season and we ended the season by remaining indebted to the players and coaches for some five salaries. When you build a team, you have to do it earlier, we had to pay some of our obligations, but that does not diminish our gratitude for the help of the state of Serbia. We set up a team and changed coaches, they brought Vildoza, and Campazzo came. We went through all that,” said Covic and added: “If we had the funds, Nikola Kalinic, Dejan Davidovac, Nate Walters, maybe Dejan Radonjic, who obviously made a mistake by going to Panathinaikos, would have stayed.”
